HOW DO I BECOME A BETA TESTER? Use the contact form to submit a request. Beta releases can usually be enabled on the spot during any sales or tech support call as well.
WHERE DO I GO TO DOWNLOAD BETA RELEASES? The same place you get the stable releases, ie, the Stone Edge Download Gateway. A link to it was provided to you when you purchased the software. If you've lost that information, just contact us and we'll re-send it to the account of record.
DO I NEED A SUPPORT CONTRACT TO DOWNLOAD BETA RELEASES? Yes.
HOW DO I REPORT BUGS IN THE BETA RELEASES? Posting in the release thread is acceptable, though you will often be advised to contact Technical Support for further investigation. You can always e-mail us to report issues as well.
WHAT INFORMATION DO YOU NEED FOR BUG REPORTS? Steps to reproduce, primarily. If you can't reproduce it reliably, it's probably not a software bug (in Order Manager, at least). Also nice to have are: version of Microsoft Access you are using, including any service packs; version of Microsoft Windows; edition of Order Manager (Standard, Plus POS, or Enterprise) you're reporting the bug for; and, if using multiple workstations, whether you can reproduce the issue on all workstations or only one/some.
IF I'M REPORTING A BUG, DO I NEED A SUPPORT CONTRACT? Yes, but please do not assume an issue is due to a software bug until Stone Edge is able to confirm that fact. Time spent investigating or fixing known bugs is not billable to your support contract, but you do need a valid support contract to initiate a bug report.
CAN I TRY A BETA RELEASE WITHOUT UPGRADING ALL WORKSTATIONS? (or, I INSTALLED THE BETA. CAN I GO BACK TO A PREVIOUS RELEASE?) No, it is NOT safe to assume this is possible. Since all workstations generally share the same data file, and since beta releases will often make structural changes to your data file and/or write information that is incompatible with older releases, beta releases are not designed to run in parallel with other releases! It is HIGHLY ADVISABLE to back up your data file before installing and running a beta release. Stone Edge recommends extreme caution when using a beta release in production. At a minimum, test with a backup of your data file first!
THE BETA RELEASE TRASHED MY DATA FILE Beta releases are clearly explained as experimental in nature, so there WILL be bugs and there may be consequences such as this that are not recoverable. Be aware that you are implicitly accepting this risk by agreeing to install any beta release.
HOW DO I PROPERLY INSTALL / REMOVE BETA RELEASES? First, uninstall whatever version of Order Manager is installed. This will ensure a proper cleanup of the program files and registered components. Next, download the program installer for the desired version from the Stone Edge Download Gateway. Run the installer. This same procedure should be followed on all other workstations that need to access store data after the desired release is installed and running.
CAN I INSTALL BOTH BETA AND STABLE RELEASES IN ONE FOLDER / ON ONE MACHINE? No. Due to potential registration conflicts and the nature of distributing Order Manager and its components, this is not currently supported. |
