I'm looking for automatic inventory tracking for Parent SKU's with assembly or kit parts.

Currently we use Kits, parent SKU's that point to genuine product SKUs. I read throught the KB that kits do not track inventory. I also took a look at assemblies, which seem to have the ability to manually create QOH via the "Work with Assemblies" module by pulling inventory from each assembly part.

Is there no way to implement automatic QOH tracking for a kit, depending on the lowest available QOH of any of its' parts? Some sort of combination of what the assemblies do with QOH, but for kits and automatically instead of manually editing QOH for these parent SKUs?

We have something like 800 parent SKUs and the manual tracking we're looking at right now is beyond what we want to be handling. Thanks for any info.

Where do you want to track or display the quantity on hand (QOH)? The only time it makes sense is if you want to know how many of a specific kit can be shipped right now. Anything beyond that cannot be valid. Example: Kit A include 3 Widgets. Kit B includes 1 Widget. You have 6 Widgets in stock. So, assuming that everything else is in stock, you can build 2 Kit A's OR 6 Kit B's. But if someone wants to purchase 1 Kit A and 5 Kit B's, or 1 Kit B and 2 Kit A's, you will not be able to build them all. So anything that shows the available QOH for BOTH Kit A and Kit B will be misleading. Likewise, if someone checks on Kit A, then Kit B, then goes to order both of them, they may be disappointed. So there really is no good way to handle that. Even if you explain everything very carefully, you know that most customers either won't read the explanation or won't pay any attention to it.

I need the QOH to track to our Able Commerce site.

1) It will enable purchasing of the Parent SKU; not out of stock, unable to add to cart

2) Adds a level, although very likely inaccurate as you stated, of quantity control.

If this is not possible, is there a broader management console for assemblies. How does an assembly work if I create an assembly for a SKU that is already a Kit?

Is there a way to import data or control an assembly to maintain a certain level of inventory, or to automatically rebuild QOH once it is out of stock and has parts available?
